New Poster: “We Decide Who Is Raped. And Who Isn’t.”

This is what the continuous parsing and tweaking and rewording of the definition of rape adds up to. In November, you’ll get to decide who gets elected. And who doesn’t.

New Poster: “No Means Yes. Yes Means Anal. Ass-rape a DKE Today. QED.”

You probably haven’t heard about a recent incident involving the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Yale, in which the pledges paraded around campus threatening other students and chanting, “No means yes! Yes means anal!”

Yale University has suspended the DKE chapter for 5 years, but have these extraordinarily privileged young men learned their lesson? Doug Lanpher, interim executive director of DKE, told The New York Times in response to the ruling:

“We suspended their pledging activities for six weeks so we could review their activities with them. Clearly the chanting was inappropriate, but does it warrant a five-year suspension? While the events were insulting and in poor taste, DKE firmly disputes this to be a legally actionable case of sexual harassment.”

This feeble attempt to muddy the waters and squirm out of responsibility suggests to us a certain lack of academic rigor. Therefore, we have constructed the syllogism in the poster above, simply following the DKE proposition to its logical conclusion.

New Poster: “Gaia Say Fight: You Are Our Secret Weapon Against The War on Women”

The recent War on Women waged by the American Trailer Park Patriarchs Party is, of course, just the most recent skirmish in a virulent campaign that has being going on at least since a certain Bronze Age thug/goatherd first intoned, “Look, it’s Yahweh or the highway.”

Now, the planet herself is waking and says to you, “Rise up, my children. I am with you. I will strengthen your arm. Strike a blow for freedom. Yours…and mine.”

New Poster: “Should You Have to Prove To the IRS That You Were Raped?”

Should rape and incest survivors be forced to prove that they were assaulted to the IRS? Amazingly, the Republicans in the House of Representatives have answered with a resounding “Yes!” HR 3, the bill that includes this provision, has now passed in the House.

Here’s how it would work: HR 3 imposes tax penalties on small businesses and individuals who buy abortion coverage with their OWN money—with exceptions only for cases of rape, incest, or when a woman’s life is in danger.

The result? Survivors of rape and incest who seek abortions could be forced to detail their assaults and provide proof to IRS investigators.

Tell the Senate to stand up against this terrible bill, and speak out against the Republican war on women. Please sign the MoveOn.org petition today.

US Supreme Court Sides With Convicted Rapist Against a Teen-Aged Girl

A teen-aged cheerleader in Texas refused to cheer for a player who was convicted of raping her. (He had received a light sentence from the court, and was still  allowed to play for the school.) The school dismissed her from the cheer leading squad, so she sued. She lost.

The high school has come up with a figure of $45,000 in “damages” that she owes. And now the US Supreme Court has refused to hear the case, giving its stamp of approval to the rapist and the high school that have caused such flagrant harm to this girl.

This story is difficult to believe. Here are the phone numbers and email addresses of the school officials involved, in case you would like to call and ask for clarification on this story:

Richard Bain Jr., Supt., Silsbee School , rbain@silsbeeisd.org, (409) 980-7800

There’s a wave of legislative attacks on women’s rights happening right now. The current move by a small group of older males to seize control of the lives and sexuality of all women is gathering force, and the intent is as ugly as that of any Bronze Age patriarch.

OHIO: Republicans are launching five separate bills aimed at restricting access to abortions, including a controversial measure banning the procedure as early as six weeks after conception.” One proposed law would outlaw abortions from the moment a fetus’ heartbeat is detected.

SOUTH DAKOTA: Legislation seeks to redefine the definition of “justifiable homicide” to the defense of an “unborn child.” Abortion-rights advocates immediately described the pending statute as “an invitation to murder abortion providers.”

IOWA: A panel of the state House Human Resources Committee approved language that would criminalize doctors who perform abortions.

FLORIDA: An ordained minister, who is also a Republican lawmaker, has introduced the Florida For Life Act, which seeks to outlaw most abortions.

MONTANA, OKLAHOMA, FLORIDA, TEXAS, IOWA, NORTH DAKOTA: New “personhood” bills define “personhood” at a fetus’s earliest moments – even earlier than the current test set forth by the Supreme Court.

NATIONAL: One bill would prevent women from purchasing insurance that includes abortion coverage in the new insurance exchanges even if they’re using their own money. This kind of restriction could lead to insurance companies dropping abortion coverage entirely. The same bill would also levy a special tax on small businesses and individuals who purchase insurance coverage that includes abortion. Another bill would, incredibly, allow hospitals to turn away a woman seeking an abortion, even if she’ll die without it—a major change from current law.

America, Rape, Women

“No” Doesn’t Mean “No.”

A far-reaching anti-choice bill, introduced by Republican Chris Smith and supported by 173 members of the House, includes a provision that could redefine rape and set women’s rights back by decades.

Right now, federal dollars can only be used for abortion in cases of rape, incest, or when the woman’s life is in danger. To get around this, the Smith bill would narrow the legal meaning of “rape” to mean only violent rape: Date rape, coerced rape, statutory rape, and rape of the mentally impaired would no longer be considered “rape.”
